The benefits of an alumni community

There are no better ambassadors than alumni

It seems we are always looking for new ways to connect with people, when in fact sustaining connections we have already made might be the key to successful networking. Such as keeping in touch with your old school and old school pals.

Consider for a moment how many students were in your year at Claremont Fan Court, now how many were in the whole school, and consider that each year a group of these people leaves and moves on to university or work, creating a network of people who you already have one solid thing in common with; school. Whether you both hated maths or loved the canteen custard, it’s a great starting point for a conversation. Lots of these people are very open to networking with like-minded individuals and offering the opportunity to meet new people, people in their current field of work or study, or explore new interests and hobbies.

Alumni communities are one of the easiest ways to broaden your network. By engaging with your fellow alumni you are open to explore this community, whether that is via a dedicated alumni community site such as this one, or on social media, such as a LinkedIn group, or networking events such as those hosted by Claremont Fan Court.

Most schools now have a dedicated alumni representative, ensuring the community has access to the resources they need to sustain a successful community. Simply, there are no better ambassadors than alumni. Creating a strong and trusted community, alumni are more likely to give back to their school, whether that’s advice to graduating students or even just returning for the annual alumni sports day. The community is ever growing and evolving, with a new batch of alumni every year, this makes for vast possibilities for the alumni and for the school.
